Biography
Donald J. Ramsell is a nationally recognized Illinois DUI and traffic crime defense attorney whose work has reshaped how DUI evidence is challenged in court. He is the only Illinois DUI lawyer to appear and argue an Illinois DUI case before the United States Supreme Court. Several of his cases have been featured in the media, including the Washington Post, the New York Times, and the front page of the Daily Herald.
Ramsell was the first Illinois attorney to become Board Certified in DUI Defense under American Bar Association standards through the National College for DUI Defense. He has led landmark challenges involving breath testing equipment and field sobriety testing, and he has been named an Elite Lawyer multiple times, most recently in 2026.
With his vast experience and legal knowledge, Attorney Ramsell stands out as a distinguished figure in his practice area. He has written numerous articles published in different legal publications, including the DuPage County Bar Association and the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education. Additionally, he has presented at seminars with the Illinois State Bar Association, the DuPage County Bar Association, and other reputable associations.
Attorney Ramsell earned his Juris Doctor from DePaul University in 1984. Prior to that, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Loyola University in 1981.
