Biography

Alexander is a litigation attorney with experience prosecuting and defending a wide variety of civil actions in state and federal courts across New York and New Jersey. A graduate of Duke University and Seton Hall Law School, Alexander received his early legal training and at a historic regional law firm based in Bergen County, New Jersey. He continued his career as an associate with one of America’s largest defense litigation firms. In 2016, Alexander ventured out and started his own practice, Schachtel Law to better serve his community. Schachtel Law prides itself on providing personalized attention and delivering dedicated and relentless service to each client that we represent. The office routinely handles civil lawsuits involving small and mid-sized business disputes, contract disputes, real estate litigation, construction litigation and personal injury claims, representing both Plaintiffs and Defendants. The firm has developed a reputation for litigating complex fraud cases in the tri-state area, and currently represents a group of victims of a multimillion-dollar Ponzi scheme operated from northern New Jersey. The firm is also representing a large group of victims of an employment scam targeting recent college graduates. Our practice is guided by a commitment to justice and does not shy away from representing clients or dealing with subject matter that requires zealous advocacy, no matter the stakes or controversy involved. We have represented and filed lawsuits against high profile figures. We have represented public servants, police officers and average joes in a variety of controversies. With nearly a decade of highly diversified civil and commercial litigation experience, Alexander is an experienced trial lawyer who has delivered courtroom wins to clients across a variety of subject matter areas. He is licensed to practice law in New York and New Jersey and has been admitted to practice before the Federal District Court for the District of New Jersey, the New Jersey Bankruptcy Court and the Federal District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He has been recognized as an Super Lawyers Rising Star* in the State of New Jersey from 2019 through 2024 and achieved one of the top 50 civil verdicts (by monetary value) in the State of New Jersey in 2019. Mitchell Chan joined the Law Office of Alexander Schachtel  in 2024. Before joining the firm, Mitchell was a law clerk for the Honorable Thomas W. Sumners, Jr., Chief Judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division. Originally from San Francisco, Mitchell earned his undergraduate degree in history from the University of Pennsylvania in 2018 and his J.D. from Rutgers Law School in 2023. During law school, Mitchell interned at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and for the Honorable Jessica S. Allen, U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. He was also senior articles editor of the Rutgers University Law Review and a research assistant for the Rutgers Center for Corporate Law and Governance. His student note, Using the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act as a Model for Federal Question Jurisdiction Over Corporate Complicity in Overseas Human Rights Violations, 75 Rutgers U.L. Rev. 609 (2023), won the Rutgers Outstanding Scholastic Achievement Award for Best Student Note, Comment or Scholarly Paper.
