Biography

Jason A. Weis has spent over two decades serving as a trusted advocate for Northern Virginia clients engaged in high-stakes family law cases. A native of the region, he built his practice in Fairfax County and Loudoun County representing clients in contested divorce, custody, support, and property division litigation, and has done so for hundreds of families since 2004. Mr. Weis did not arrive at family law by the usual path. Before law school, he assisted in the resolution of federal tax disputes alongside United States Tax Court Judges. Early in his legal career, he practiced real estate litigation, business litigation, and complex and class action litigation, and along the way purchased, operated, and sold a commercial entity of his own — experience he has since drawn on to advise others doing the same. Add an undergraduate education in philosophy and religion, and the result is an attorney who brings a genuinely different set of experiences to every case — the kind of background that lets him recognize and work within different vectors in a case. Mr. Weis’s approach is built on a simple premise: understand what a client is trying to achieve, build a strategy and plan of execution around it, and prepare for that outcome relentlessly. Litigation, when it’s necessary, is simply the arena where that preparation gets tested. His approach has earned him lasting recognition. Mr. Weis has been named a Super Lawyer in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia, and has been recognized by Washingtonian Magazine, Washington Business Journal, Northern Virginia Magazine, Best Lawyers in America, U.S. News & World Report, and Ten Leaders in Matrimonial & Divorce Law in Northern Virginia. He holds the AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell® and a perfect 10.0/10.0 on Avvo — the kind of recognition that comes only from years of results, not marketing. In the courtroom, Mr. Weis is known for being charismatic and confident, but never careless — judges and opposing counsel alike describe him as insightful and decisive, but also pragmatic. He builds his cases methodically, working closely where necessary with forensic accountants, business valuation experts, forensic psychologists, vocational rehabilitation specialists, and medical and addiction experts to make sure nothing about a client’s financial or family life goes unexamined. That reputation has taken him beyond a typical family law practice: Mr. Weis has qualified and testified as an expert on Virginia family law in a foreign jurisdiction and before military tribunals, and he has been vetted by the U.S. Department of State to represent clandestine personnel and individuals holding varying levels of security clearance.
