Biography

Attorney Joseph “Joey” R. Franks is the founder of Big Man Law, a Mississippi law firm focused primarily on DUI defense and criminal defense. Joey did not begin his career behind a desk. He grew up in West Monroe, Louisiana, and worked a variety of demanding jobs while attending high school and college. He poured concrete, performed carpentry and factory work, worked as a laborer at an antique auction, operated an antique store, and ran a salvage yard. After graduating from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in 2008 with a degree in speech communication, Joey went to work for the Louisiana and Delta Railroad. He began as a train brakeman and earned promotions to conductor and locomotive engineer before later working for Canadian National/Illinois Central Railroad. That background still shapes the way Joey practices law. He understands that most people who contact a lawyer are not looking for legal jargon or unrealistic promises. They want someone who will listen, explain the situation plainly, prepare thoroughly, and tell them the truth about what they are facing. Joey entered Mississippi College School of Law in 2011 and graduated cum laude in 2014. While in law school, he served on the Moot Court Board, worked as a student librarian, and served as treasurer of the Student Federal Bar Association and the Civil Law Society.
