Biography
For almost 30 years, John M. McCabe has dedicated himself to seeking justice for those who have been injured by the negligence and carelessness of others. His firm, located in his hometown of Cary, North Carolina, represents the victims of trucking collisions, car accidents, animal attacks, on-the-job accidents, construction site accidents, slip-and-fall and trip-and-fall accidents, unsafe property conditions, sexual abuse, and nursing home neglect.
Mr. McCabe earned his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 1991 and his law degree, with honors, from Campbell University School of Law in 1994.
After graduating law school, Mr. McCabe initially worked for a law firm that defended claims filed by injured people. After seeing how insurance companies and large businesses attempted to use the legal system to shortchange victims and maximize their own profits, Mr. McCabe changed sides and began representing accident victims. Since 1995, he has been seeking justice across the state for people who have been injured or lost a loved one because of someone else's negligence or recklessness.
Known for his strong work ethic and attention to detail, Mr. McCabe has participated in ground-breaking lawsuits and legislative changes. In 2000, he took on a case involving a mother and daughter who were hurt in a head-on collision with a Department of Transportation pickup truck. He successfully challenged North Carolina's recovery cap for victims injured by the State. This case brought about a change in law that increased the cap from $150,000 to $500,000. In 2023, McCabe spearheaded legislation to increase the minimum liability limits for automobile insurance and to abolish an insurance company's unfair credit in underinsured motorist cases.
Because of his dedication to professional excellence, Mr. McCabe has received numerous recognitions and awards, including : (1) Lawyer of the Year in the field of Personal Injury by Best Lawyers, (2) Top Lawyers in America by U.S. News & World Report; (3) The Best Lawyers in America; (4) a North Carolina Super Lawyer, (5) North Carolina’s Legal Elite, and (6) Top 100 Trial Lawyers in America. For more than 16 years, he has been AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell, including in the Judicial Edition.
Mr. McCabe is a Past President of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice, where he served almost a decade on the organization's Executive Committee. He is the Chair of the Board of Visitors at Campbell Law School, and he serves as a State Delegate for the American Association of Justice.
Mr. McCabe is licensed to practice in all North Carolina federal and state courts.
