Biography
Malcolm B. Seawell is the founder and principal attorney of Seawell Law, a Centennial-based firm devoted exclusively to criminal defense and plaintiff personal injury litigation. For over 30 years, Mr. Seawell has delivered exceptional legal outcomes across Colorado, earning a reputation for persuasive advocacy, strategic case resolution, and an unwavering commitment to justice.
Mr. Seawell received his Bachelor of Arts with honors in Criminal Justice and Economics from American University and graduated from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law with highest honors in 1991, earning induction into the Order of St. Ives. His academic excellence was recognized with American Jurisprudence Awards in Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Appellate Advocacy, and Corporations.
He began his career as a Deputy District Attorney in Colorado’s 18th Judicial District, prosecuting cases ranging from traffic offenses to First Degree Murder. In private practice since 1996, he has served as Alternate Defense Counsel, on the federal Criminal Justice Act Panel, and continues to represent indigent clients in Broomfield Municipal Court.
In 2024, Mr. Seawell secured the dismissal of attempted murder charges in Denver County, persuading the District Attorney’s office to withdraw the case after presenting evidence of his client's innocence—an outcome that reflects both investigative diligence and legal acumen.
His civil practice includes standout results, such as a six-figure defamation settlement for a client falsely accused of theft, whose reputation and career opportunities were significantly impacted.
Mr. Seawell has received broad professional recognition, including an AV Preeminent® rating by Martindale-Hubbell, a 10.0 “Superb” rating on Avvo, and selection to The National Trial Lawyers: Top 100. He has also been previously named to Super Lawyers for his excellence in both criminal and civil litigation.
Beyond the courtroom, Mr. Seawell speaks regularly to teen audiences at local schools, educating them on the legal consequences of improper smartphone use—a commitment to prevention and public education that underscores his investment in Colorado’s communities.
He is a former Associate Municipal Judge in Castle Rock and Parker, and a past Board Member and Douglas County Chapter Chair for the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar. He’s also a former member of the Alfred Arraj American Inn of Court and an active member of the Colorado Bar Association, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the American Bar Association.
In his free time, he enjoys exploring Colorado with his wife Nicole—whether hiking, biking, skiing, or camping under the stars.
