Biography

Melody Petitt is a Texas family law attorney who represents clients in divorce and custody cases where the outcome matters deeply and the path forward is not simple. For more than two decades, Melody has focused her practice on family law. She has represented clients through contested divorce, child custody disputes, child support matters, enforcement actions, property division, temporary orders, mediation, trial, and post-judgment issues. Her work is especially suited for clients who need clear legal analysis, practical strategy, and direct advice during one of the most difficult seasons of their lives. Melody does not believe clients are helped by vague reassurances or unrealistic promises. She believes they are helped by understanding the law, the facts, the risks, and the options available to them. Her goal is to give each client a clear picture of where they stand and what steps may move the case forward. Before returning to private practice in North Texas, Melody owned and operated her own law firm in Beaumont, Texas for 14 years, where she negotiated and tried family law cases throughout Southeast Texas. She also previously served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Child Support Division of the Texas Attorney General’s Office. That experience gives her a practical understanding of family law litigation from multiple angles. Melody earned her law degree from Baylor University School of Law and her undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University, Commerce (now East Texas A&M). She has been recognized by legal industry rating services, including Martindale-Hubbell and Avvo, and she is a member of the State Bar of Texas Family Law Section, Texas Bar College, Collin County Bar Association, Dallas County Bar Association, and Collin County Attorney Moms.
