Biography

Mike is a litigation and trial attorney who has spent more than 12 years trying cases in courtrooms across Ohio and Kentucky. Over the course of his career, he has tried more than 15 cases to verdict, many involving claims in excess of $1 million. Before joining Cowan & Hilgeman, Mike was a partner at a large regional defense firm representing insurance companies and corporations. There, he focused much of his practice on personal injury, trucking litigation, medical malpractice, and long-term care defense. He also practiced on the plaintiff side and obtained a multi-million-dollar judgment against a large insurance company for its improper handling of claims. That defense background gives Mike a unique perspective in his current work. He understands how insurance companies evaluate and defend claims, and he now uses that knowledge to advocate for victims of negligence. Mike devotes 100% of his practice to representing people who have suffered catastrophic injuries or lost loved ones due to auto, motorcycle, and truck accidents, medical malpractice, nursing home neglect, and product liability. Mike earned his Bachelor of Science from Mount Saint Joseph University in 2005, where he played varsity basketball. He went on to attend Northern Kentucky University's Salmon P. Chase College of Law, graduating ranked fourth in his class in 2011. During law school, he served as Associate Editor of the Northern Kentucky University Law Review and was a member of the Moot Court Board and National Trial Advocacy Team. He is licensed to practice in Ohio and Kentucky and is admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern District of Ohio and the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky.
