Biography
Monica Burneikis was born in San Jose, California in 1978. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from San Jose State University in 2001 and went on to attend Santa Clara University School of Law on a Dean’s Fellowship Scholarship, receiving her Juris Doctor in 2005.
Ms. Burneikis began her legal career at Sheuerman, Martini & Tabari, a respected medical malpractice defense firm in San Jose. In 2007, she joined Hoge, Fenton, Jones & Appel, one of the largest firms in San Jose, where she initially handled a broad range of matters. She quickly discovered her passion for advocating for injury victims and became one of the few plaintiffs’ personal injury attorneys at the firm.
In 2012, Ms. Burneikis relocated her practice to San Francisco, joining Meisel & Krentsa, a firm devoted exclusively to personal injury. She became a named partner in 2015. In 2020, she founded Burneikis Law, P.C., where she serves as Founder and Lead Trial Counsel.
Ms. Burneikis devotes her practice to representing individuals who have been seriously injured through the negligence or wrongdoing of others. She has extensive experience in all aspects of civil litigation and a strong trial record, having secured multiple multi-million-dollar results for her clients. She is known for her dedication to client service and her relentless pursuit of the best possible outcomes.
From 2020–2025, Ms. Burneikis has been named to the Northern California Super Lawyers list—an honor reserved for no more than 5% of attorneys in the state. In both 2024 and 2025, she was selected to the Top 50 Women Attorneys in Northern California, and in 2025, she was named to the Top 100 Attorneys in Northern California. Of the attorneys who made the Top 100 list, only 20 practice plaintiff-side personal injury law, and only 2 are women—Ms. Burneikis is one of them.
Each year since 2019, she has also been selected to the National Trial Lawyers Association’s Top 100 Civil Plaintiff Trial Lawyers and named one of America’s Top 100 Personal Injury Attorneys. She has been recognized by San Francisco Magazine as one of the Top Attorneys in Northern California and has been included on Super Lawyers’ list of Top Women Attorneys. In 2018, she was the only female finalist for the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association’s Trial Lawyer of the Year Award.
Earlier in her career, from 2014–2018, she was selected to the Northern California Rising Stars list, which recognizes no more than 2.5% of attorneys in the state. In 2014, she earned lifetime membership in the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, an elite group representing fewer than 1% of U.S. attorneys, reserved for those who have achieved million-dollar verdicts or settlements in complex cases.
Ms. Burneikis has a long history of leadership within the legal community. She served as President of the Santa Clara County Trial Lawyers Association in 2011 and on its Board of Governors from 2009–2011. She also held leadership roles with the Santa Clara County Bar Association, including serving on the Judiciary Committee and Board of Trustees, and chairing both the Lawyer Referral and Civil Practice Committees.
She is an active member of The State Bar of California, The Bar Association of San Francisco, San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association, Consumer Attorneys of California, American Association for Justice, Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, and California Women Lawyers. She is admitted to practice before all California state courts and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Central, and Eastern Districts of California.
