Biography

Sarah Scherer is a certified mediator, Intake Director, and Partner at The Harris Law Firm. She holds a Master’s in Social Work, which enhances her extensive experience counseling clients and helping them understand their legal needs. As an intake attorney, she is often the first point of contact for individuals seeking legal guidance. She listens to their concerns and thoughtfully connects them with the attorney best aligned with their values, needs, and goals. As Intake Director, she leads the team with a client-first approach, ensuring individuals are guided to the right resources, even when that means a referral outside of The Harris Law Firm. Sarah’s early experiences working with vulnerable populations solidified her commitment to combining legal knowledge with empathy and client-centered care. While in law school, Sarah interned with the Rocky Mountain Victim Law Center, the Juvenile Division of the Colorado State Public Defender’s Office, the Adams County Department of Human Services, and the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. During her graduate studies in Social Work, she interned with Arapahoe County DHS’ sexual abuse response team as a permanency caseworker and with Gateway Domestic Violence Services as a court advocate and intake counselor. Prior to joining The Harris Law Firm, Sarah was a Judicial Fellow for Domestic Relations magistrates Hurst and Fliss in the 18th Judicial District and served as the liaison between the Denver Juvenile Court and Denver DHS’ Department of Child Welfare. She also served as a Policy Associate on the Children and Families team at the National Conference of State Legislatures, where she helped educate lawmakers from across the country on legislative policies involving adult, family and youth homelessness, child support and family law, domestic violence, and family economic security. Sarah has represented respondent parents in Dependency and Neglect cases and children in paternity cases as a Guardian ad Litem in Denver Juvenile Court. Sarah is known for her strong communication skills and thoughtful problem-solving. She can understand complex cases quickly to ensure clients feel informed and supported. She excels at breaking down legal concepts into clear, understandable guidance and takes pride in creating a seamless, supportive intake experience for both clients and attorneys. She understands the sensitive nature of family law and many other legal matters, and she works to ensure clients feel heard, and empowered from the very first conversation. Her goal is to provide clarity and reassurance while helping clients take confident next steps in their legal journey.Outside of her legal work, Sarah enjoys practicing yoga, spending time with her family, and staying active outdoors through hiking and other activities. She also loves supporting her daughters in their extracurricular pursuits, making the most of her time with family and community. When I called into the Harris Law Firm I was confused, terrified and stressed beyond belief. However, when their intake coordinator Jay Lyema spoke with me I was able to feel the stress roll of my shoulders. She was not only comforting and informative she was a breathe of fresh air in a hard to breathe situation.
