Biography

When someone is arrested in Polk County, their life can change in a moment. The call I get — from a spouse, a parent, or the person themselves — is usually the first time they’ve ever called a criminal defense lawyer. The stakes are real. The fear is real. My job is to make sure they have the best defense available, and to be straight with them from the first conversation about what they’re facing and what I can do about it. I’m Tonmiel Rodriguez. I’m a criminal defense attorney in Bartow, Florida. This page is about who I am, where I came from, and why I do this work. “This is the highest level of recognition by The Florida Bar for the competency and experience of a lawyer practicing criminal trial law.” The Florida Bar Board Certification in Criminal Trial Law is the highest recognition the Bar gives for competence and professionalism in criminal trial practice. Less than 1 percent of Florida attorneys are Board Certified in any specialty. To become Board Certified in Criminal Trial, an attorney must: I earned Board Certification because I wanted to hold myself to a higher standard than the minimum required to practice law in Florida. It means something to me. It should mean something to any client who hires a lawyer — you want someone the Bar has independently verified knows what they are doing in a criminal courtroom.
